Scope of the project

Government of Maharashtra conducts a supplementary SSC exam for those who could not clear it in first attempt. Students who clear this supplementary exam are eligible to appear for the junior college re-admission rounds and continue his/her education without wasting a year. But for those who have unfortunately failed even the second attempt at SSC examinations, the mark sheet still does not use the “failed” tag, but credits the mark sheet with a remark “eligible for skill development”.

With the view of not wasting an academic year for these students, a six month skill development course structure is introduced to them at the end of which they get a certificate for the skill acquired. An aptitude test is conducted for the students before admitting them to the programme to find out their inclination towards any particular interest and presenting them with career options that would aptly reflect their abilities.

This six month curriculum emphasizes more on practical knowledge and has 80% weightage to practicals and 20% weightage to theory, thus making them fit for employment immediately.

Being designed for the students failed in 2016 SSC exams, NYCS wants to give an equal opportunity to the SSC drop outs from earlier years too as it believes that education is a fundamental human right and should be available to everyone who wants to exercise it. With Kaushalya Setu, one can re-start his/her journey towards a better and secured future with dignity and worth.

Highlights :

• To provide skill development training to SSC failed students in supplementary exams held by The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education to enhance employment, entrepreneurship and apprenticeship opportunities.

• Enabling credit transfer of the subjects passed by the students in the State Board to NIOS and then after completing the 6 months skill course, the student can get a SSC passing certificate from NIOS.

• Amend the SSC pattern to accept the skill course and convert it to 3 subject's credit to be given to the students for SSC pass certificate by following the NIOS pattern

• Placement assistance by establishing forward linkages of these trained candidates into employment, self-employment or apprenticeship in the associated industries.
