About Kaushalya Setu Abhiyan

The State of Maharashtra is known to be a progressive state, especially for the amazing leadership in the field of education. Keeping up with this rich tradition, the State School Education Department under the dynamic leadership of Hon.Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Hon. Minister of Education Shri. Vinod Tawde, has once again thought of bringing a change in the lives of many young students who have been deprived of an opportunity to fulfil their dreams due to lack of success in their tenth grade examinations. With this initiative of the Kaushalya Setu Programme, the dream of “Pragat Shaikshanik Maharashtra”, where no child is left behind is about to come true in its true sense.

It is observed that there are many reasons for students failing in the SSC examinations. The reasons vary from lack of academic interest in family, health, adolescence, to psychological and economic reasons. There is a high chance that repeated failure in exams affects the self-confidence of a child, his acceptability in society and family and his overall well-being. Though such students have also been seen to become mature and perform well in later stage of life after reaching a certain age, nevertheless till then they often miss out on the opportunity of education and many doors of education and skills are shut for them.

More often these failures result in the child becoming either depressed or careless and unconcerned. There is a huge chance of these youth going astray and taking up wrong paths. The families of these students also have to face a lot of trauma and find it difficult to get the child back into the mainstream.

For the first time, starting from the current year, the students who unfortunately could not pass SSC supplementary exam will get an opportunity to learn skills required by the industries so that they can move ahead confidently towards multiple options of employment, self-employment or higher education.

The Kaushalay Setu Abhiyan has been sanctioned as the very first non government project under Special Projects component of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). School drop-outs and SSC failed students would be the target beneficiaries.

Role of NYCS in Kaushalya Setu Abhiyan

With an objective to channelize the SSC failed students of Maharashtra into the mainstream through various Skill Training courses, the state government through an extensive selection process has chosen the NSDC partner National Yuva Cooperative Society (NYCS) and a few other training associates as implementation agencies for this project.

The trainings shall be conducted in Government Polytechnic Colleges under Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai and Private Polytechnic Colleges in Maharashtra.

NYCS’s focal work-area has always been to equipping the youth with employable skills and to encourage them towards entrepreneurship. As implementation partners of Kaushalya Setu we want to tap the potential of each child who is considered a failure and converting him or her as an asset by empowering them with an avenue to discover the hidden skills in them through a skill based programme.
